Itinerary (subject to adjustment)

Day 1 Wed Oct 23: Overnight flight to Paris.

Day 2 Thurs Oct 24: Arrive in Paris this morning and meet our driver, then travel to the city of Tours in the Loire Valley, with a visit to the Château de Chambord, with its distinctive French Renaissance architecture. We stay in Tours, so you are free to shop and explore and choose a nearby restaurant for dinner.

Day 3 Fri Oct 25: Depart Tours and head for Bordeaux, with a stop in Cognac for a multi-sensory discovery of the history, craft and secrets of Hennessy, with a tasting of Hennessy V.S and V.S.O.P cognacs, led by a House expert. On to Bordeaux, one of France’s most exciting, vibrant and dynamic cities. Lunch is at Cite du Vin followed by a self-guided tour of this ultra-modern and immersive wine adventure. Early evening we will board the MS Cyrano De Bergerac. After dinner on board we will take a walking tour of central Bordeaux. (B,D)

The next four nights we will cruise the Garonne and Dordogne rivers on the CroisiEurope ship, the MS Cyrano de Bergerac that is our hotel, restaurant (all meals), bar and nightly entertainment headquarters with daily stops in fabulous cities along the way.

Day 4 Sat Oct 26: Tour Pauillac and the Chateaux du Medoc Route. Departure by coach from Pauillac to discover the Médoc, a corner of the world that produces the most prestigious red wines on the planet, tightly wedged between an ocean and an estuary. We will go through most of the Médoc appellations (Saint Julien, Margaux, Haut-Médoc). On the famous Châteaux Route, we will stop to taste the famous wines of the region. On the way you will see major domains such as Châteaux Laffitte-Rothschild, Latour and Mouton Rothschild. Return to the boat at the end of the afternoon. (B,L,D)

Day 5 Sun Oct 27: Visit Blaye and Its Underground Monuments. We’ll leave on foot to visit the Blaye Citadel, built in the 17th century by Vauban in order to better protect the city of Bordeaux. You will explore the underground passages that soldiers once used and learn how the site was developed using older buildings that Vauban preserved and reused. After our tour, we’ll walk a few more feet to a local vineyard and taste some regional products with an excellent glass of wine. (B,L,D)

Day 6 Mon Oct 28: Guided Tour of St. Emilion and wine tasting. We depart by coach from Libourne for the excursion to Saint-Emilion. Guided tour of the underground monuments in Saint-Emilion village. Your guide will tell you all about the history of the medieval town. You will then visit an exceptional troglodytic site with, undoubtedly, its most original monument, the Monolithic church. Hewn entirely in limestone, it is the largest in Europe. You will then depart for a visit of a family-owned wine-growing estate, where you will be welcomed by the owner, who will explain the stages of the winemaking process in Saint-Emilion. A commented wine-tasting session will complete the visit. Return to Libourne by coach. (B,L,D)

Day 7 Tues Oct 29: Free day to explore the city of Bordeaux with its public gardens lining the curving river quays. Visit the grand Place de la Bourse, centered on the Three Graces fountain, which overlooks the Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool. The massive Place des Quinconces is a public square lined with trees, towering columns and white-marble statues. Chartrons, Bordeaux’s old wine merchants’ quarter, is home to galleries and antiques shops. Its pedestrian-friendly shopping street, Rue Sainte-Catherine, features fashion boutiques and cafes. Restaurants offer local specialties including wine, oysters, lamb, beef and truffles. (B,L,D)
