Stuck at home and jonesin’ to travel?

Travel Virtually until you can do it for real!

Vacation plans may be on hold, but that doesn’t mean you can’t travel to your dream vacation virtually now.

Here are some fun things you can do now to get excited for your next trip.

You Tube Travel Videos

YouTube has tons of great travel videos that allow you to travel virtually anywhere in the world. And since you can watch it on virtually any device from your hand-held smart phone to your giant flat screen, it is one of the most flexible ways to get your inspiration. Here is one of the ways I use YouTube for travel inspiration:

Walk the streets of my favorite city

Instead of just walking on the treadmill, I pull up a virtual walking tour and enjoy exploring a city. It’s amazing! My brain actually feels like I’m there. Here’s one of Venice:

A Good Book Can Transport You to other Worlds

Historical Fiction and Travel Journals by famous authors take us on journeys to far away lands and inspire us to repeat their journeys. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Outlander – travel to 18th century Inverness, Edinburgh and Paris while learning the history of the Highlands, all escorted by a man in a kilt! Can’t get much better than that.
  • Eat, Pray, Love – Italy, India & Bali come alive on this travel odyssey. Oh to get paid just to travel… oh wait, that’s what we do!
  • The Black House by Peter May. This Scottish author from the Isle of Lewis & Harris in the Outer Hebrides, brings the bleakness and the rainbows alive. Once you’ve read it, you just have to see it for yourself.
Hooray for Hollywood

No other medium has taken us on adventures to the far-flung corners of the globe quite like the movies. And the classics never get outdated. Here are three of may favorite travel inspirations:

Okay the first two are obvious – lovely Tuscany and the plains of Africa. But, yes, you heard me right – Mamma Mia. I have never wanted to go to a Greek Island and just hide away so badly as after seeing this movie. And, yes, you CAN go there… and even climb the stairs if you have it in you.
